Bu kitap, Türkçede özne konumundaki boş adıl ile açık adıl o’nun tümce içi bağlamlarda hangi öncüle bağlandığını işlemleme, yorumlama ve üretim boyutlarında incelemektedir. TÜBİTAK 1002 programı kapsamında desteklenen 324K597 numaralı projede yürütülen dört deney, Carminati’nin İtalyanca için önerdiği Öncül Konumu Stratejisi’ni (ÖKS) Türkçe verilerle sınamaktadır. Anlambilimsel yönlendirme, biçimbilimsel yönlendirme ve yönlendirmesiz koşulları ele alan üç öz-denetimli okuma deneyi ile bir tümce tamamlama deneyine toplam 153 anadili Türkçe üniversite öğrencisi katılmıştır. Gerçek zamanlı okuma sürelerinde adıl ya da öncül türüne bağlı anlamlı bir farklılaşma gözlenmemiştir. Anlama sorularında ise katılımcılar her iki adıl türünde de özne öncülünü baskın biçimde tercih etmiş; ipuçları bu yanlılığı ortadan kaldırmamış, yalnızca zayıflatmıştır. Üretimde konuşucular özne öncülüne boş adılla, nesne öncülüne ise açık adıl yerine çoğunlukla tekrarlı adla gönderimde bulunmuştur. Bulgular, ÖKS’nin boş adıl bileşeninin Türkçede işlediğini, açık adıl bileşeninin ise beklenen nesne yanlılığını göstermediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Kitap, o adılının Türkçede bir artgönderim aracından çok söylemsel bir işlev taşıdığını ileri sürmekte ve Türkçeyi diller arası artgönderim araştırmalarında önemli bir karşılaştırma noktası olarak konumlandırmaktadır.
